Tips to Outclass Your Competition – It’s Party Time–Think Business

Holiday parties are just around the corner and office parties are part of the holiday celebrations. Office party rules are slightly more formal than social parties. Follow these guidelines to make a favorable impression with your office party savvy:
  • Go! It’s part of your job.
  • Take a gift for the host. Gift baskets are good choices
  • Dress to impress. The office party is a business event. Play it safe and dress conservatively.
  • Arrive on time; leave before the party time is over.
  • Count your drinks – one or two maximum.
  • Mingle. Introduce yourself to others. Branch out and meet new colleagues.
  • Keep conversation fun and light. Avoid gossip or shop-talk. Start a conversation with “Tell me about…
  • Be culturally aware. Not everyone is celebrating the same holidays. “Happy Holidays” is culturally appropriate.
  • Do not eat in the buffet line. Offer to help someone with a disability. Buffet lines are hard to maneuver and your help will be more than welcome.
  • Thank your host before you leave.

The Coach’s Corner – Which road do I take?

“One day Alice came to a fork in the road and saw a Cheshire cat in a tree. “Which road do I take?” she asked. “Where do you want to go?” was his response. “I don’t know,” Alice answered. “Then,” said the cat, “it doesn’t matter.” – Lewis Carroll

Do you know where you’re going? Clarifying focus is the first step of the coaching process. One way we explore and clarify focus is to reflect on your past successes, joys, peak experiences, and then connect the dots to see what they have in common. We then connect these events to your current life?

    Coaching questions:
  • What is most meaningful to me?
  • How can I connect past special moments to my current life?
  • What area of my life would I like to re-create?
  • What goal really excites me?
  • What’s my first step?
